The Savoy Combines Mid-Century Elegance With New York City Hotel Glamour
Behind the Design

Nestled in Australia's sunny Gold Coast, The Savoy is a glamorous mid-century home with a surprise behind every door.
Owner-builders Perri and Eddie Beith, the powerhouse couple behind Beith Building and Developments and House of Pez, drew inspiration from the unbridled opulence of New York City’s boutique hotels when designing their family home.
“We chose to do this project in Broadbeach Waters because it's such close proximity to the beach, cafes, and restaurants,” says Perri.
“It's such a beautiful community, and we love living here.”
The home’s striking curb appeal is defined by its distinctly mid-century butterfly roof, extruded brickwork fence, black aluminium accents, and rich maroon front door. These features combine to create a bold, timeless aesthetic that effortlessly captures your attention.
“My personal style is a mix of mid-century and Hollywood glamour. We wanted to call it The Savoy and then someone told us there was a hotel of the same name,” says Perri.
“We went to New York last year and were so inspired by all the hotels there. So, our brief for this project was to create a luxurious and sophisticated hotel feel.”

With flamboyant finishes and artistic architectural details, The Savoy invites you on a nostalgic journey, celebrating an era when design and creativity reigned supreme.
The four-bedroom residence radiates mid-century sophistication with its vintage gallery wall, walnut timber panelling, and built-in banquet booth seating. Its playful yet refined design seamlessly blends retro glamour with contemporary elegance.
“We wanted each room to feel special and different from all the others. We used lots of marble and made the powder rooms really luxurious to make you feel like you're in a hotel,” Perri continues.
“Ultimately, we wanted to create a home that was a blend of different eras but also made sense, and we haven’t seen anything like this on the Gold Coast before.”

Emulating true hotel elegance, the front door opens to a foyer beneath a soaring double-height void. A hallmark of 70s interior design, the floor-to-ceiling stone feature wall commands attention, drawing the eye upward with its striking textural allure, while walnut herringbone engineered flooring anchors the space.
Each corner of the home is perfectly balanced and intentionally styled, Perri’s talented eye for design shining through every thoughtful detail.
Take the soft pink velvet armchair in the foyer, for example—a welcoming touch that provides guests with a place to remove their shoes while perfectly setting the tone for The Savoy’s blend of sophistication and warmth.

“It was important for us to have a primary bedroom downstairs as it makes it much more livable for us,” Perri explains.
“We did floor-to-ceiling cabinetry along one side and a half-height custom bedhead as the feature of the room, which offers some privacy leading into our beautiful ensuite.”
The smooth curves of ABI’s brushed brass Elysian Gooseneck Shower Rail Sets frame the double shower, its built-in garden bed providing a lush pop of green against the half and half walls of burgundy tiles and terrazzo.

“I’ve used a lot of different metals in this house and found the ABI brushed brass tapware really versatile to work with.”
“We carried it throughout the house, and it creates such a glamorous feel in each space.”
The downstairs powder room envelops you in opulent green tones, while the utility room brings a touch of drama with its moody ambience and retro checkered floor tile design.

Vibrant artwork contrasted against the dark timber-panelled hallway, creating a dramatic entrance to the central kitchen, living, and dining nook.
To the left, fuchsia-striped banquette seating offers a cosy, retro-inspired retreat, a warm glow emanating from a statement gold chandelier overhead.
“My favourite area of the house would have to be the banquet-style seating. It brings so much joy to our everyday meals,” says Perri.
“The beautiful Calcatta Voila marble is a standout feature in the dining booth and kitchen — it brings such a luxurious feel to the space.”

Deep fuchsia tones extend into the plush velvet stools that line the kitchen island, where our Elysian Commercial 3-Way Filter Tap serves as a sophisticated focal point.
Integrated cooktops and appliances blend seamlessly into the design, allowing the rich interplay of marble and walnut to take centre stage.
“It feels really glamorous, and it's such a functional space as well,” says Perri.

The living room radiates vintage charm, bursting with rich hues, bold patterns, and a curated mix of eclectic furnishings.
Floor-to-ceiling sheer curtains gently diffuse natural light, and a sleek dry bar adds a touch of hotel-inspired refinement, tying the space together with a playful yet elegant flair.
The living room seamlessly transitions to an elevated alfresco area, creating a perfect blend of relaxed indoor-outdoor living.
With its walnut and sage green palette, the space features a charcoal barbecue, pizza oven, bar fridge, sink, and a stylish outdoor dining set—perfect for entertaining or unwinding.

“We chose hit-and-miss brickwork to let a lot of airflow and light come through while still offering privacy,” Perri explains.
“This space opens up onto the pool and spa, which gets so much sun. It’s beautiful to sit out there at any time of day.”
Surrounded by lush greenery, the pool area exudes vintage glamour with its black-and-white checkered tiles, sage green sun loungers, and matching umbrellas. The setting evokes the timeless allure of a Slim Aarons photograph, combining classic elegance with effortless leisure.

Upstairs, Perri split the secondary living area into two home offices for her and husband.
“In my workspace, I used a beautiful beige Bauwerk paint as the backdrop for my gallery art wall,” Perri explains.
“It's such an inspiring space — it's fun, it's sophisticated, and the windows on either side of the room let in so much beautiful natural light, which is perfect for when we're making client design selections.”

Art is seamlessly woven into the essence of The Savoy, breathing life, vibrancy, and intrigue into every corner.
“We've used a real blend of artworks throughout the project, many of which I was able to collect through Marketplace and vintage stores,” Perri explains.
“I love blending vintage pieces with new ones. The different textures and colours bring such a unique feel to the place — it’s just what this house was calling for.
“We did the same with furniture. We wanted to bring forward that vintage feel, and you just can't achieve that by buying new furniture.”

Artwork adorns the hallway walls, with each room's theme subtly hinted at by the playful use of colour on its door. A dark, moody powder room lies behind the first clay-toned door, its black Rosso marble surfaces and burgundy limewash walls creating a dramatic backdrop for the elegant lustre of ABI’s brushed brass fixtures.
“The first bedroom is what we call our pink room, which is a beautiful dusty rose colour,” Perri explains.
“Then we also have our sage bedroom. I think the Bauwerk textured limewash paint adds a real point of difference to each space, and all the bedrooms have their own walk-in robe.”

The Savoy's eye-catching main bathroom exudes retro charm, featuring 3D-look avocado green wall tiles, burgundy cabinetry, and the luxurious touch of Rosso marble surfaces.
“This bathroom was designed as a shared space for kids of all ages,” says Perri. “It’s such a fun design with a built-in bath and a range of contrasting colours that all work so well together.”

A second spacious primary bedroom completes the upstairs level—its dreamy cloud-like ceiling and sumptuous, nature-inspired palette creating a cocoon of comfort.
“We included a little sitting area and used walnut timber panelling to bring warmth and richness to the space,” says Perri.
“This leads into the huge primary ensuite, which has a skylight that illuminates the beautiful emerald green Kitkat tiles. We also included a double basin and a separate toilet, which is so functional.”

A tribute to art and the timeless flair of mid-century design, The Savoy combines the indulgence of a luxury boutique hotel with all the comforts of home.
“This project was a big challenge for us,” says Perri.
“It was tricky getting across the uniqueness of the design, but we had a lot of great trades willing to work with us to find out what we wanted or rectify mistakes if things weren't right.
“I've never seen something like this on the Gold Coast, so being able to bring it to life successfully is something we couldn’t be more proud of.”
